TitleInvestigation of Maternal Breastfeeding Experiences for the Diverse Population in Western Australia
CourseDoctor of Philosophy
Project opportunityCentre for Human Lactation Research and Translation
Description

Western Australia is home to one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse populations in Australia, encompassing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, established migrant communities, and newly arrived refugee and humanitarian entrant families. Despite strong evidence for the health benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and infants, breastfeeding initiation and duration rates vary significantly across these diverse groups. This project will conduct a comprehensive, mixed-methods investigation of the breastfeeding experiences, challenges, and support needs of mothers from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds across Western Australia. The findings will directly inform the development of culturally responsive, evidence-based interventions and service delivery models to improve breastfeeding outcomes for all Western Australian families.
