Title | PhD position in computer simulations of galaxies and star clusters |
---|---|
Description | The University of Western Australia node of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) invites applications for a PhD scholarship in computer simulations of galaxies and star clusters under the supervision of Prof. Kenji Bekki.
The successful PhD student will be involved in either (or both) of the following two projects (depending on the student's skill): (i) new development of a simulation code for galaxy-scale chemical enrichment, dust physics, and various feedback effects (in particular, for very low-surface brightness galaxies, like ultra-diffuse galaxies, UDGs) and (ii) simulating the formation of massive star clusters in galaxies using star-by-star chemodynamical code (in particular for UDGs). In this project, the predicted properties of galaxies and star clusters will be compared with the corresponding observations. Therefore, this project would suit students who are interested in developing simulations codes and performing simulations of galaxies and star cluster using supercomputers in Australia (e.g., OzSTAR, SETONIX etc).
For further information regarding the project, please contact Porf. Kenji Bekki; kenji.bekki@uwa.edu.au
