TitleARC Discovery Project HDR Scholarship
Project opportunityDetection, tracking and shadow profile retrieval of flying objects with opportunistic signals from LEO satellites
Description

Mega-constellations of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites for global Internet services, such as SpaceX’s Starlink, have now materialized. Similar to radio astronomy, using the microwave signals from the LEO satellites, it is possible to retrieve things in the sky, e.g. rainwater, flying objects such as UAVs, and space debris. However, the sky is vast. How far away can a detector detect? In this project, the feasibility of flying object detection with opportunistic signals from the LEO satellites will be investigated, along with tracking and shadow profile retrieval.
