Project opportunityPhD project with scholarship: Play Active Program
Description

Play Active is a national program to boost energetic play in early childhood education and care (ECEC). The Play Active program has been designed to help ECEC services increase the amount of energetic play children do every day in a safe and supported environment. Backed by research and co-created with educators in WA working directly with children, Play Active is the only program of its kind in Australia that provides clear guidelines for ECEC centres to ensure all children are getting enough energetic play throughout the day, every day. The program is part of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course (The Life Course Centre).

The successful PhD candidate will be involved in the national roll-out of Play Active to ensure it meets the needs of all ECEC services, children, and families, particularly those experiencing disadvantage.

The Centre has its headquarters at University of Queensland, with nodes at UWA, University of Melbourne and University of Sydney. The UWA Node of the Life Course Centre is based at the Telethon Kids Institute and is examining a range of issues relating to the development of children and adolescents facing deep disadvantage.  The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor Hayley Christian and other experienced academics from the Centre.

The successful PhD candidate will also be a student member of the Life Course Centre, connecting them with the wider student network across the Centre’s four university nodes. Life Course Centre student members are provided with opportunities to receive mentoring from leading national and international researchers and industry stakeholders, funding to attend conferences and training, for undertaking knowledge translation and community involvement activities as part of their research, to participate in Centre Committees, and to join Centre-run student development events and training.
