Higher Degree by Research Application Portal

The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) offers two named scholarships annually to support postgraduate research training in any discipline relevant to the minerals industry in Western Australia:

•    The MRIWA Odwyn Jones PhD Scholarship
•    The MRIWA PhD Scholarship for Women (open to women applicants only)

These scholarships are intended to encourage and enable students of exceptional research promise to undertake higher degrees by research at universities in Western Australia. The scholarships are available to both domestic and international applicants (subject to stated eligibility criteria) and are tenable at any university in the state.

Applicants must be undertaking a PhD degree examining a subject of relevance to the minerals industry of Western Australia. Applications will be considered from candidates in any Faculty for studies consistent with MRIWA’s current Research Priority Plan (available at https://www.mriwa.wa.gov.au/research-funding/research-priorities/)

MRIWA Scholarships provide an annual stipend and an allowance to support research and travel costs for up to three years, with the possibility for a six-month extension. Applicants for a MRIWA Scholarship must submit a completed application, research proposal and relevant supporting documents to MRIWA before the closing date.

Note: Applicants for MRIWA scholarships will only be considered if they have submitted, prior to the close of university applications, a completed application form and research proposal as detailed on the MRIWA website at https://www.mriwa.wa.gov.au/research-funding/education-program/scholarships/. MRIWA scholarship offers can only be made to applicants who have been offered and accepted a place in a relevant degree program. Applicants must have applied for a relevant program at an eligible university before submitting their application to MRIWA, and must advise MRIWA of the progress of their university application.
