| Title | Seadragon conservation in Southern Australia (genomics) |
|---|---|
| Course | Doctor of Philosophy |
| Description | Seadragons are iconic temperate Australian fish that face increasing threats based on urbanization and climate change. Progress in population genetics has seen gradual improvements in the resolution of our knowledge of seadragon population structure. This type of information is critical for underpinning any risk analyses for on-the-ground actions ie translocations or captive breeding programs, as well as extinction risk. The project supported here will be further developed with the recruited student’s interest and skills. We envision the project to be centered around the genomics of seadragons using Whole Genome Sequencing data (to be generated through in kind funding recently allocated to the project by the Threatened Species Initiative and Bioplatforms Australia). The project will directly contribute to seadragon conservation efforts and will endeavour to deliver data products. It will also engage with communities and conservation groups and co-design work where possible. |
