Scientific Program for Advancing Research and Knowledge (SPARK)

The UWA SPARK Scholarships aim to develop future leaders in health and scientific research which will drive sustainable change in their home countries. 

This is a tuition fee offset scholarship offered to eligible candidates for full tuition fee coverage for their PhD candidature.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

• Meet PhD admission requirements as endorsed by the HoS (School of Health and Clinical Sciences) and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Training).

• Be affiliated with, or supported by, an approved partner institution

Demonstrate: 

  • Relevant academic background
  • Commitment to health, research, or systems strengthening
  • Clear intention to contribute locally
  • Leadership potential and commitment to equity and impact

Priority may be given to:

• Early- to mid-career professionals

• Candidates embedded in health systems, academia, or policy environments

• Applicants whose work aligns with national priorities

 

Partner Institutions

The program will initially be delivered in collaboration with selected institutions in India and Vietnam, with future expansion based on:

• Strategic alignment with UWA priorities

• Demonstrated local need

• Capacity for co-supervision and research delivery

• Long-term partnership potential

Partnerships

• India: Lotus Eye Hospital in Mumbai, LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, Sankara Nethralya Hospital

• Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital, Hai Yen Eye Care Institute, Hanoi Medical University, Hanoi Eye Hospital 2, Dong Do Hospital

AND: Other hospitals or education institutes that have signed partnership agreements with the School of Health and Clinical Sciences
