Description

The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) offers scholarships to support exceptional candidates undertaking higher degree by research training in any discipline relevant to the minerals industry in Western Australia. They include:

  • MRIWA Odwyn Jones PhD Scholarship open to all applicants including domestic and international students, and is offered to the highest ranked PhD candidate
  • MRIWA PhD Scholarship for Women open to women PhD applicants
  • MRIWA PhD Scholarship open to all PhD applicants including domestic and international students
  • MRIWA Indigenous Postgraduate Research Scholarship open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Postgraduate students.

The scholarships are available to both domestic and international applicants (subject to stated eligibility criteria) and are tenable at any university in the state.

Applications will be considered from candidates in any field of study consistent with MRIWA’s current Research Priority Plan (available at https://www.mriwa.wa.gov.au/research-funding/research-priorities/)

MRIWA Scholarships provide an annual stipend and an allowance to support research and travel costs for up to three years, with the possibility for a six-month extension. Eligibility

Applicants for a MRIWA Scholarship are required to provide the following as part of their application to MRIWA:

☐ Evidence they have registered for or applied for a relevant postgraduate research degree program at a Western Australian university

☐ Scanned or electronic copies of academic transcripts

☐ Signed endorsement of the research proposal by all proposed supervisors

☐ For applicants for the MRIWA Indigenous Postgraduate Research Scholarship – evidence of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status

How to apply

Applicants for a MRIWA Scholarship must submit a completed application, research proposal and relevant supporting documents to MRIWA before the closing date to scholarships@mriwa.wa.gov.au

Applications for admission to UWA should be submitted via the UWA HDR Applications Portal https://researchdegrees.uwa.edu.au/ .  Enquiries should be addressed to applications-grs@uwa.edu.au
