TitleBrian Metcalf PhD project in Biological Chemistry- Nucleic Acid Chemistry
SupervisorDr Marie Migaud
CourseDoctor of Philosophy
Keywordsorganophosphorus and nucleoside synthetic chemistry
Categoriesstudentship
Research areaChemical Sciences
Project description

The project will entail the development of innovative synthetic methodologies to access modified canonical and non-canonical nucleosides, nucleoside phosphoramidites, nucleoside triphosphates, and dinucleotides. Once synthetized, the RNA building blocks will be used in RNA synthesis (IVT and solid phase synthesis) to be used as compositional, functional, or structural reporters.

In addition to developing skills in advanced organic synthesis and organophosphorus chemistry, the candidate will harness extensive expertise in complex analytical chemistry, and water-soluble compound purification.

Specific project requirement

An undergraduate degree in chemistry or related field is required.

Course typeDoctorates
Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a program of independent, supervised research that is assessed solely on the basis of a thesis, sometimes including a creative work component, that is examined externally. The work presented for a PhD must be a substantial and original contribution to scholarship, demonstrating mastery of the subject of interest as well as an advance in that field of knowledge.
